Hello loves,
Today I’m resharing, recycling a newsletter I wrote back in July. I’m sharing it because a very close beloved of mine has been in crisis this week. And so I’ve been in crisis with them. And I keep hearing the words, “trust your path, and it will support you.” Inside of the groundlessness and fear my only option has been to reach for support, especially the support of my guides. And while things are still settling and a bit uncertain, what I am certain of is that my guides have been there for me and my beloved. Three hummingbird messengers came to be with us at the peak of the crisis. One flew near us as we arrived safely to our destination, another sat in a tree when I was processing with my partner, and another when my beloved shared what care they most needed next. All little love notes telling me we were being watched over, held, loved.
So here’s a piece inspired by the unwavering support that’s always right there on our paths.
“Trust your path. And it will support you.”
—Geralt of Rivia
I felt my intuition nodding at me when I first heard this quote, like its wisdom had been with me in other lifetimes. Spoken by Geralt of Rivia, the main character in the fantasy series, The Witcher, who, alongside many other gifted beings, offers his magical powers to the fight for justice and peace on a continent at war. Geralt speaks these words to the young woman he is destined to protect, Cirilla, while she is just beginning to learn about her own sacred power.
Trust your path and it will support you.
How can we apply this wisdom to our own paths? And to the collective challenges we’re facing in this moment?
What new meaning does trust take on during a time of polycrises? What new meanings of support do we need to try on?
If you pause right here where your feet are planted, what are the invitations in the air? From the soil? The water? The beings around you? What messages do they have for you? What are they calling you toward?
And when you let yourself be guided by that calling, what support, visible or otherwise, might be opening its hand to you?
Something profound happens when we journey with the belief that there’s an infinite flow of support waiting for us at every turn, every crossroad.
Support that helps us look forward with hope.
That helps us trust ourselves exactly where we stand on our current path, even though the future of our lives and our planet is uncertain.
Support that helps us remember that creative power and potential have always lived inside of uncertainty.
Dr. Bayo Akomolafe calls this space of potential “the edges in the middle.” It’s the cracks, the ruptures, the most unexpected places where grace finds us. Where faith along the path molds possibility.
Like Geralt and Cirilla, can we remind each other of this when we’ve forgotten our power?
Our power to create. And innovate. And shape shift.
Our power that grows stronger when we move with life.
With the path.
Which is also to say that our power is stronger in relationship. Our power is stronger with other life force.
Can we put our faith in each other? In the soil and the stars? In the birds and the trees? In the ancestors? In our co-becoming?
Systems of domination do not trust the earth and her beings. Systems of harm do not move with life. They exist to control and exploit and extract. These are delusional forms of power. Which is why these systems work so hard at keeping us asleep to our own magic and disconnected from the magic of all of the beings around us, disconnected from our collective power.
But the natural world is always inviting us to acknowledge our entanglement. Always reaching for us to fortify our love. And our magic is reconnected with every breath, every tear, every threshold. And there’s life poured back into the knowing that we are part of something vast and wild and mysterious. Something exceedingly more powerful than colonialism and capitalism.
As we stand on the edge of a world on fire, and the opening of a world anew, let us call upon the mystery to be our greatest muse.
Let us trust fall into the heart of the earth and all her beings, who are just as invested in a joyful future as we are.
Together, let us receive the miraculous love and support that is always right there. In the way the light lays just so on the water, in the kindness of a stranger, in the three little birds right outside your doorstep.
I love y’all.
